IRC 101 News Archive

[help]

The IRC 101 news archive is a fully searchable archive of over 1000 full and partial text articles posted over the years on IRC101.org, IRCNews.com, IFIRC.com, GamesNET.net and GameSurge.net and over 550 topics posted on Austnet.org, UnderNet.org, IRC-Junkie.org and mIRC.net.

If you want to browse the entire archive, just leave the search field blank and click the 'search' button.

You can specify a date limit for your search by changing the top option menu.
(set to "All Articles - No Date Limit" by default)

You can specify a certain website to lookup by changing the left option in the middle row.
(set to "All Sites" by default)

You can specify the order you want results to appear in by changing the right option in the middle row.

Valid options for article order are:
Earliest to Latest (default selection - displays older articles first)
Latest to Earliest (displays newer articles first)
Relevance (displays better search matches first - disabled if no search terms are entered)

The bottom field allows you to search for specific words in the archive. The search engine is boolean-enabled, allowing full control of the results.

You can use the following operators in your search:
+word searches must include 'word'
-word searches must NOT include 'word'
*word* searches for any instance of 'word' in the database, using * as a wildcard
>word gives 'word' more importance in the search
<word gives 'word' less importance in the search
~word documents containing 'word' will lose relevance (have a negative impact on the search)
"some phrase" looks for an exact match to whatever is in quotation marks

Entering words without any of the fancy operators above works fine too. If you choose to sort by relevance, then articles that match more of the words you specified will appear first.
